A major supplier to the upstream oil and gas industry requested our help in creating a GA vessel out of duplex stainless steel, a material that can be difficult to locate and work with.
PEC Laser was originally contacted by our end client's parts supplier to see if we could create a component solely using duplex stainless steel.
Before PEC Laser could even start on the project, we had to track down a duplex stainless steel supplier in a short amount of time. Not only that, but the steel had to be tested and pass material test reports (MTR) to prove that it was indeed duplex and met the customer’s specifications.
Once the reports came back, we began working on the internal assembly of a GA vessel which included making all of the hardware: nuts, bolts and washers out of the duplex stainless steel. Some of the smaller parts were even made in house like the threaded rod and studs. Towards the end of the project, we laser cut holes and assembled the piece onto plates.
Our client was extremely satisfied with the final product as well as the short amount of lead time it took us to find the duplex stainless steel and produce the metal components.
